Bai Jiayue
Mine is also at ten. Then let's go to the airport together.
In 有一年没回国了 (yǒu yì nián méi huíguó le), the speaker is not possessing a year; the sentence says the time without returning home has reached one year.
有一年 (yǒu yì nián) gives the elapsed span, while 没回国了 (méi huíguó le) says the return has not happened up to now.
It has been a year since going back home.
半年多 (bànnián duō) is the elapsed time, and 没回去了 (méi huíqu le) says the return has not happened during that span.
It has been more than half a year since going back.
This earlier 有 (yǒu) sentence states possession; it does not measure time without an action.
I have a plane ticket.
You haven't gone back home for a year, right?
Now it has been more than half a year since I went back.
I haven't watched a movie for two months.
Dialogue 03: Planning the Next Trip Home, Turn 1
Asking about time away from home
Li Wen, you haven't gone back home for a year, right?
Dialogue 04: Flying Home for New Year, Turn 1
Saying the time has passed
I went back home once in June, and now it has been more than half a year since I went back, so I miss home a little.
In 你有一年没回国了吧 (nǐ yǒu yì nián méi huíguó le ba), 有一年 (yǒu yì nián) gives the elapsed span, 没回国 (méi huíguó) names the action that did not occur during it, and final 了 (le) links that span to the present. This is not the earlier possession or existence meaning of 有 (yǒu), as in 我有机票 (wǒ yǒu jīpiào), 'I have a plane ticket.' Here the whole frame means that a period without the action has now reached the stated length.
Complement of Frequency (1)
Put a number plus 次 (cì) after the action to say how many times it happened.
One completed time
Use 一次 (yí cì) after the action to count one occurrence.
In 回去了一次 (huíqù le yí cì), 一次 (yí cì) counts the return.
回去了一次 (huíqù le yí cì) counts the return as one completed action.
I went back once in June.
一次 (yí cì) counts one completed return; it does not describe the length of the trip.
I returned home once in June.
I went back once in June.
I returned home once in June.
I ate Beijing roast duck once.
Dialogue 03: Planning the Next Trip Home, Turn 2
One return in June
Not quite a year. I went back once in June.
Dialogue 04: Flying Home for New Year, Turn 1
Returned home once
I went back home once in June, and now it has been more than half a year since I went back, so I miss home a little.
回去了一次 (huíqù le yí cì) says Li Wen went back once: 一次 (yí cì) counts occurrences of the action, not how long it lasted. Put the frequency complement after the verb; completed 了 (le), when used, comes before the count. With a noun object, the count can come before that object, as in 吃了一次烤鸭 (chī le yí cì kǎoyā), 'ate roast duck once.' This differs from a duration complement such as 飞了两个小时 (fēi le liǎng ge xiǎoshí), which measures time rather than repetitions.
Complement of Frequency (2)
Use 再 (zài) before the action and 一次 (yí cì) after it to say one more time.
One more time
Use 再 (zài) before the action and 一次 (yí cì) after it.
In 想再去一次北京 (xiǎng zài qù yí cì Běijīng), 再 (zài) marks repetition and 一次 (yí cì) counts one time.
再去一次北京 (zài qù yí cì Běijīng) puts 一次 (yí cì) after 去 (qù).
I want to go to Beijing one more time.
再吃一次烤鸭 (zài chī yí cì kǎoyā) uses the same repeat-once pattern.
I want to eat roast duck one more time.
Without 再 (zài), 一次 (yí cì) counts one trip but does not present it as another trip.
I want to go to Beijing one more time.
I want to eat roast duck one more time.
After the exam, I want to watch this movie one more time.
Dialogue 02: Planning Another Trip to Beijing, Turn 1
Another trip to Beijing
The exam is over, and I want to visit Beijing one more time.
Use 再 (zài) before an action that is expected or wanted in the future, and use a frequency complement such as 一次 (yí cì) after the verb to count the planned repeat. 再去一次北京 (zài qù yí cì Běijīng) therefore means 'go to Beijing one more time.' Without 再 (zài), 去一次北京 (qù yí cì Běijīng) only counts one trip; it does not say that the trip repeats an earlier one.
I want to go to Beijing once.
