Last year I went to the northwest, where the mountains are high and I saw no city for a week.
西南和东北离得很远，坐火车要两天。
The southwest and the northeast are far apart, two days by train.
我坐在两个朋友中间，他们一直在说话。
I sit between two friends, and they keep talking.

Teacher Wang's homework is to find each friend's hometown on the class map. Annie volunteers first, to show off her new directions, and starts with Jiayue.

今天的作业不难：到地图前面，说一说你朋友的老家在哪儿。
Today's homework isn't hard: come up to the map and tell us where your friend's hometown is.

I like big cities, but my hometown is a small city where there are few people at night.
北京市有很多公园，周末到处都是人。
Beijing has many parks, and on weekends there are people everywhere.
你知道哪个地方可以吃到好吃的饺子吗？
Do you know where you can get good dumplings?
公园里的花开了，妈妈带孩子去公园照相。
The flowers in the park are out, so Mom takes the kids to the park to take photos.
Me first! I've learned my directions. Jiayue's hometown is... in the southwest!

西南？我的城市在东北！你看，在地图的右上边。
Southwest? My city is in the northeast! Look, it's at the top right of the map.

Xiaoxue and Li Wen take their turns at the map. Xiaoxue shows her home by the sea, and Li Wen remembers the mountains he climbed last year.

In my northeast there's snow everywhere and in your southeast there are flowers everywhere. Totally different.

Never mind the parks, I want my mom's cooking.

你们都有老家可以想，我的老家在地图外面。
You all have a hometown to miss, and mine is off the map.
Teacher Wang asks for the last place on the map, the city they are standing in. Annie finally gets a direction right.

最后一个问题：我们的北京市在地图的哪儿？
Last question: where on the map is our Beijing?
安妮Annie
北边……啊，北边的中间！这次对了吧？

Li Wen has drawn a dot in every hometown and the map is full. Jiayue and Xiaoxue are still arguing about whose city is better.
