HSK 4Lesson 20
Getting around town means finding a place to park, keeping enough fuel in the car and choosing the right ride. You will hunt for a parking space on a busy weekend, look for a gas station on the expressway, plan the cheapest way to the airport, and ask a teacher about riding an electric bike to school.

You will learn to talk about parking, finding fuel on the expressway, getting to the airport by public transport, and riding an electric bike to school, and to say you will never do something again.

你看那边:“下一个加油站,十五公里。”
Look over there: "Next gas station, fifteen kilometers."
爸爸Dad
十五公里应该能到。我开慢一点儿,这样用油少。

刘明Liu Ming
您放心,我再也不把车停在路边了。
Don't worry, I'll never park by the road again.
Liu Ming makes this promise after being made to pay fifty yuan.
Report never again
Use 再也没zài yě méi for what has not happened since a certain time.
Use 没méi for the past and 不bù for a decision about the future.
In sentences
A decision
上次在高速上遇到堵车,等了两个小时,我再也不开车去机场了。
Last time I was stuck on the expressway for two hours. I'm never driving to the airport again.
再也不zài yě bù + verb + 了le.
Since then
那次以后,他再也没把车停在路边。
After that, he never parked by the road again.
再也没zài yě méi reports the past; the 把bǎ phrase follows it.
Never seen again
她搬走以后,我再也没见过她。
After she moved away, I never saw her again.
Often with 过guo.
A:你还去那家餐厅吗? B:再也不去了,他们的菜又贵又不好吃。
A: Do you still go to that restaurant? B: Never again; the food is expensive and not good.

安妮说,行李这么多,她再也不一个人去机场了。
Anne says that with this much luggage, she'll never go to the airport alone again.
再也zài yě + a negative means never again, not even once more. It is strong and emotional, and it always looks back at something that did happen before. With 不bù it states a decision or a future that will not change, and the sentence often ends in 了le: 我再也不把车停在路边了wǒ zài yě bù bǎ chē tíng zài lùbiān le, I'll never park by the road again. With 没méi it reports the past: since a certain moment, the thing has not happened again, often with 过guo and a time phrase such as 那次以后nà cì yǐhòu: 那次以后,他再也没去过nà cì yǐhòu, tā zài yě méi qùguo. 再也zài yě goes after the subject and before 不bù or 没méi; anything else that goes before the verb, such as a 把bǎ phrase or a place, follows the negative. 不再bú zài also means no longer, but it is calmer and more formal. Common mistakes are to change the order, as in 我不再也开车wǒ bú zài yě kāichē, or to use 再也不zài yě bù for something that never happened in the first place: for a plain never, 不bù or 没méi alone is enough.
