Liu Ming shows Li Wen a company that is hiring; they look at what it asks for and Li Wen urges him to send his papers at once.

Then send your papers today. The sooner you send them, the better your chances.
Bai Jiayue has an interview tomorrow for a translator's job; Teacher Wang asks her how she would answer a likely question and gives her advice.

王老师，明天我要去面试，有点儿紧张。
Teacher Wang, I have an interview tomorrow and I'm a bit nervous.
王老师Teacher Wang

Don't be nervous. What job are you applying for?

Got it. I'll practice it a few more times tonight.
Anne wants to work during the summer holiday; Liu Xiaoxue tells her about a café job, and they work out whether the pay would cover her rent.
安妮Anne
暑假我想打工，你有什么建议？
I want to work during the summer holiday. Any suggestions?
刘小雪Liu Xiaoxue
学校旁边的咖啡店在找人，你可以去问问。
The café next to the school is looking for people. You could go and ask.

工资高吗？
Is the pay good?
刘小雪Liu Xiaoxue
不太高，一个小时二十块，可是每个月也有一点儿收入。
Not very: twenty yuan an hour. But there is still some income every month.
安妮Anne
我想用这些收入交房租，够吗？
I want to use that income to pay my rent. Is it enough?
刘小雪Liu Xiaoxue
一个星期做五天的话，差不多够。
If you work five days a week, it's about enough.
安妮Anne

Then I'll go and ask this afternoon.
Li Wen tells Liu Ming how his father started as a temporary worker in a factory and later became a permanent worker.
李文Li Wen
我父亲在一家工厂工作，是那儿的工人。
My father works in a factory; he's a worker there.
刘明Liu Ming
他在那家厂做了多久了？
How long has he worked at that factory?
李文Li Wen
快三十年了。他十八岁就进了那家厂。
Almost thirty years. He joined the factory when he was just eighteen.
刘明Liu Ming
他一开始是正式工人吗？
Was he a permanent worker from the start?
李文Li Wen
不是，开始的两年只是打工，工资很低，后来才成为正式工人。
No. For the first two years he was only a temporary worker with very low pay; only later did he become a permanent worker.
刘明Liu Ming
成为正式工人以后，收入是不是高多了？
After he became permanent, was his income much higher?
李文Li Wen
高了不少，所以他一直没换工作。
Quite a bit higher, so he has never changed jobs.
