Nà wǒmen cháng shuō de “kējì” ne?

Then what about the word kējì that we often use?

Teacher Wang

It means science and technology. First there was knowledge about electricity, and only later the technology to make phones.

My mom gave me this new machine. Do you know how to use it?

    2. 刘

Liu Ming

Wǒ kànkan shuōmíngshū…… Tā zhǔyào yòngyú zuòfàn, yě kěyǐ yònglái kǎo miànbāo.

Let me look at the manual... It's mainly used for cooking, and it can also be used to bake bread.

    3. 李

      李文Li Wen

Tài hǎo le, nà wǒmen jīntiān jiù kǎo yí ge shìshi. Shuōmíngshū shang xiě yào kǎo duō cháng shíjiān?

Great, then let's bake one today and see. How long does the manual say to bake it?

    4. 刘

Liu Ming

Xiě de shì sānshí fēnzhōng, kěshì wǒmen de miànbāo hěn xiǎo.

It says thirty minutes, but our loaf is small.

    5. 李

      李文Li Wen

Then let's shorten the time a bit, to twenty minutes... Wait, why is it making such a loud noise? And there's a bit of a smell.

    6. 刘

Liu Ming

Bié dānxīn, shuōmíngshū shang shuō, dì-yī cì shǐyòng de shíhou shēngyīn huì dà yìdiǎnr, yě huì chǎnshēng yìdiǎnr wèidao, zhè hěn zhèngcháng.

Don't worry. The manual says it's a bit loud the first time you use it and gives off a slight smell; that's normal.

    7. 李

      李文Li Wen

Good. In twenty minutes we'll get to taste our own bread!

    2. 刘

Liu Xiaoxue

Duì. Tā báitiān yòng tàiyángguāng chǎnshēng diàn, wǎnshang jiù néng zìjǐ liàng, bú yòng jiā li de diàn.

Yes. In the daytime it makes electricity from sunlight, so at night it lights up by itself without any power from the mains.

    3. 安

Anne

    4. 刘

Liu Xiaoxue

Méi huā duōshao qián. Cáiliào shì xuéxiào tígōng de, wǒmen yòng de dōu shì xiànyǒu de dōngxi, méi mǎi xīn de.

It didn't cost much. The school provided the materials, and we only used things we already had. We didn't buy anything new.

    5. 安

Anne

Cheap and useful! Your lamp has caught a lot of people's attention; people keep coming over to ask about it.

    6. 刘

Liu Xiaoxue

Lǎoshī shuō, zhè zhǒng dēng zài méiyǒu diàn de dìfang néng qǐdào hěn dà de zuòyòng.

Our teacher says a lamp like this could make a big difference in places without electricity.

    7. 安

Anne

Nà nǐmen kěyǐ duō zuò yìxiē, sòng gěi nàxiē dìfang de háizi.

Then you could make more and give them to the children in those places.

Teacher Wang, there were no phones when you were at school. How did you look things up?

    2. 王

Teacher Wang

We went to the library to find books. Since phones appeared, our lives have changed a lot.

But using a phone too much can also cause lots of problems, like bad eyesight and going to bed too late.

    5. 白

Bai Jiayue

I have that problem too. I'm on it until midnight every night.

    6. 王

Teacher Wang

Nà nǐ děi gǎi yi gǎi zhège xíguàn. Shǒujī yòng de hǎo, zài xuéxí shang néng qǐdào hěn dà de zuòyòng.

Then you need to change that habit. Used well, a phone can be a big help with studying.

    7. 白

Bai Jiayue
