动词+到/住/走/上
Put 到dào, 住zhù, 走zǒu or 上shàng after a verb to show the result of the action.

Annie and Yixue run back to the café, where Liu Ming is wiping tables. Annie tells him what happened.
刘明Liu Ming
你们怎么回来了？是忘东西了吗？
Why are you back? Did you forget something?
安妮Annie
刘明，我的包丢了啊！手机和钱都在里面，怎么办？
Liu Ming, I lost my bag! My phone and money are in it. What do I do?
刘明Liu Ming
你别担心啊。我自己就丢过五个手机，每个都找到了。
Don’t worry. I’ve lost five phones myself, and I found every one.
安妮Annie
五个？那你有办法吗？
Five? So do you have any ideas?
刘明Liu Ming
办法就一个：想想最后在哪儿看见的包。你们是坐在哪儿的？
Just one: think about where you last saw the bag. Where were you sitting?
安妮Annie
最里面。你看，在机场是别人拿错了我的行李，今天是我自己丢了包！
At the very back. See? At the airport someone took my suitcase by mistake, and today I lose my own bag!

Liu Ming's shift is over, but he stays to help. They search the table and try something new.
刘明Liu Ming
椅子上没有，桌子下边也看不见。是不是你想错了呢？
It’s not on the chair, and I can’t see it under the table. Maybe you’ve got the wrong table?
安妮Annie
不会！我们就坐在这儿。会不会已经有人拿走了？
No way! We sat right here. Could someone have taken it already?
刘明Liu Ming
我已经下班了，我用我的手机给你的手机打个电话吧！店里没人说话，听得见吧？

I see the bag! I sat here while I drank my coffee, and I forgot to take it when I left.
Manager Wang comes out of the back room as the café is about to close. Annie has her bag in her hand.
王经理Manager Wang
你们怎么还在这儿呢？我们要下班了。
Why are you all still here? We’re closing.
安妮Annie
王经理，对不起！我的包忘在这儿了，刘明帮我找到了。
Manager Wang, sorry! I left my bag here, and Liu Ming helped me find it.
王经理Manager Wang
找到就好！是刘明帮你找的？他自己的东西都找不到呢。
Glad it’s found! Liu Ming helped you? He can’t even find his own things.
安妮Annie
他有个好办法：用他的手机给我的手机打电话。问题解决了！

Liu Ming helps Annie and Manager Wang says 找到就好zhǎodào jiù hǎo when the bag turns up; Annie says 听到tīngdào when she hears her phone.

A verb can be followed by a short word that tells the result. 到dào means the action reached its goal: 找到zhǎodào, find, 听到tīngdào, hear, 看到kàndào, see. 住zhù means holding firmly: 拿住názhù. 走zǒu means away: 拿走názǒu, take away. 上shàng means onto or closed up: 穿上chuānshang, put on. The result word comes right after the verb, and 了le comes after the result: 找到了zhǎodào le. To say it did not happen, put 没méi before the verb: 没找到méi zhǎodào. Key constraint: 了le never goes between the verb and the result word. A common mistake is to put it there: ✗ 我找了到手机wǒ zhǎo le dào shǒujī, ✓ 我找到了手机wǒ zhǎodào le shǒujī. Compare 没找méi zhǎo, did not look with 没找到méi zhǎodào, looked but did not find.
动词+得/不+动词/形容词
Put 得de or 不bu between a verb and its result word to say whether you are able to do it.

得de or 不bu sits between the verb and its result.
Annie says 我找不到wǒ zhǎo bu dào on the street, and Yixue says 我也听不见wǒ yě tīng bu jiàn after calling.

地铁站不远，你找得到吧？
The subway station isn’t far. You can find it, right?
To say whether you are able to reach a result, put 得de or 不bu between the verb and the result word. 找到zhǎodào becomes 找得到zhǎo de dào, can find and 找不到zhǎo bu dào, cannot find. The same works with 看见kànjiàn: 看得见kàn de jiàn and 看不见kàn bu jiàn; with 听见tīngjiàn: 听得见tīng de jiàn and 听不见tīng bu jiàn; with 拿动nádòng: 拿得动ná de dòng
