It is the week before Annie's first Chinese exam. She has left her notebook at a café, Liu Ming has lost a borrowed dictionary, and Jiayue has only studied for one night. You will hear them revise, argue about dictionaries and read the results.

考试以前的一个星期，我每天晚上复习两个小时。
In the week before the exam, I review for two hours every evening.
老师讲得很快，我一边听一边记笔记。
The teacher talks fast, so I take notes while I listen.
我昨天把笔记本忘在车上了，今天还没找到。
I left my notebook in the car yesterday and haven't found it yet.
不认得的字，我先查字典；不懂的词，就查词典。
For a character I don't know I check the character dictionary; for a word I don't understand, the word dictionary.
说汉语要多练习，我每天晚上练五分钟。
To speak Chinese you need to practice a lot, and I practice for five minutes every evening.
每个句子我都写三遍，这样就不会忘了。
Part 3 · 4 conversations
After class Yixue asks Annie how her revision is going. Annie has left her notebook at the café, and Yixue offers her own notes.
王一雪Wang Yixue
安妮，下星期三就要考试了，你复习得怎么样？
Annie, the exam is next Wednesday. How's your revision going?
安妮Annie
别问了。我的笔记都在笔记本里，可是笔记本忘在咖啡店了。
Please don't ask. All my notes are in my notebook, and I left it in the café.

Only one thing: the first page says December third.

What good is that! I'll lend you my notes. Read mine for now.
安妮Annie
真的吗？你的字我看得懂吗？
Really? Will I be able to read your handwriting?
王一雪Wang Yixue
放心，我写得很认真。晚上你来我的房间，我们一起复习。
Don't worry, I write carefully. Come to my room this evening and we'll revise together.
In the evening Yixue explains a sentence to Annie in her room. They argue about whether a character dictionary or a word dictionary is better, and Liu Ming arrives with bad news about the dictionary he borrowed.
王一雪Wang Yixue
这个句子我再讲一遍：“因为下雨，所以我没去。”懂了吗？
I'll explain this sentence once more: "Because it rained, I didn't go." Got it?
安妮Annie
懂了！我多练习几遍，你看对不对。
Got it! I'll practice a few more times, and you check if it's right.
王一雪Wang Yixue
写吧。这个字你认得吗？不认得就查字典。
Go ahead. Do you know this character? If not, look it up in the dictionary.
安妮Annie
我有词典，没有字典。词典不是更好吗？里面有字，也有词。
I have a word dictionary but no character dictionary. Isn't a word dictionary better? It has characters and words.
王一雪Wang Yixue
我觉得学字用字典，学词用词典。我的词典就很好，可是借给刘明了。
I think you use a character dictionary for characters and a word dictionary for words. Mine is good, but I lent it to Liu Ming.
刘明Liu Ming
对不起，我来晚了！一雪，你的词典……我找不到了。
Sorry I'm late! Yixue, your dictionary... I can't find it.
王一雪Wang Yixue
什么？又丢了？
What? Lost again?
A week later, on the day of the results, Jiayue runs to tell Annie that the teacher has written the results on the board outside the classroom.
白家月Bai Jiayue
成绩出来了！老师写在门口的黑板上了，快来看！
The results are out! The teacher wrote them on the board by the door. Come look!
安妮Annie
一雪，你看吧！
Yixue, you look!
王一雪Wang Yixue
安妮，你考了八十五分！
Annie, you got eighty-five!
安妮Annie
真的吗？我写错了一个句子，还以为会考七十分呢。
Really? I wrote one sentence wrong, and I thought I'd get seventy.
白家月Bai Jiayue
我也过了！六十二分，我只复习了一个晚上！
I passed too! Sixty-two, and I only revised for one night!
王一雪Wang Yixue
你只复习了一个晚上？下次早点儿复习吧！
You only revised for one night? Start earlier next time!
白家月Bai Jiayue
知道了，知道了！下次我一定早点儿。
Okay, okay! Next time I'll start earlier, I promise.
Later in the hallway, Liu Ming returns Yixue's dictionary, and Annie gets her notebook back too.
刘明Liu Ming
一雪，你的词典找到了！在咖啡店的桌子下面。
Yixue, I found your dictionary! It was under a table in the café.
王一雪Wang Yixue
太好了！你怎么又放在咖啡店了？
Great! Why did you leave it in the café again?
刘明Liu Ming
对不起……对了，安妮，这个笔记本是你的吧？第一页写着十二月三号。
Sorry... Oh, Annie, is this notebook yours? The first page says December third.
安妮Annie
是我的！我只记得那一页，谢谢你，刘明！
It's mine! I only remembered that page. Thank you, Liu Ming!
王一雪Wang Yixue
你们两个都爱把东西忘在咖啡店。
You two both love leaving things in the café.
刘明Liu Ming
我在那儿工作啊，东西当然在那儿了。
I work there, so of course my stuff is there.
安妮Annie
可是考试已经考完了，我不要笔记本了！
But the exam is over, I don't need the notebook now!
